The Government Chief Whip, Minister Paul Kehoe T.D., today announced the Autumn Legislative Programme for 2014. It details 30 Bills to be published before the end of 2014 with a focus on securing economic recovery and making progress on the Government’s ongoing reform agenda.

Speaking following the announcement Minister Kehoe said:
“In the three and a half years since taking office in March 2011 the Fine Gael/Labour Government has published 191 Bills and enacted 170 pieces of legislation. In the three and a half years after taking office in June 2007 the Fianna Fáil/Green/PD Government had published less than 150 Bills and passed just over 120 Acts. Under the reforms introduced by this Government the Oireachtas is sitting more days and dealing with more legislation.

“The Bills debated and passed by Ministers, TDs and Senators in the three and a half years since Fine Gael and Labour came to office in a time of extreme economic crisis have helped turn economic collapse into economic recovery and the focus is now on securing that recovery.

“Ministers in the Departments of Social Protection, Finance, Public Expenditure & Reform and Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation will publish a range of Bills over the next four months which will focus on securing economic recovery and helping job creation. Included in the list of Bills approved by Cabinet today are Bills related to Budget 2015 including the Finance, Appropriations and Social Welfare Bills as well as legislation designed to help the wider economy such as the Credit Guarantee Bill, Industrial Relations Bill, European Stability Mechanism Bill and Customs Bill.

“The Legislative Programme approved by Cabinet today contains proposals to publish a number of Bills to implement the Government’s reform agenda across a number of Departments. The ongoing reform will involve the publication of Bills in areas including a Judicial Council, Children & Family Relationships, Gender Recognition, Planning & Development, Climate Action and Admissions to Schools among others.

“The Government’s approval of this Legislative Programme confirms a focus on job creation, economic recovery and fulfilling Programme for Government commitments as outlined by Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD and Tánaiste Joan Burton TD in their Statement of Government Priorities in July 2014″.
